DevConf.CZ 2026, held on June 18-19 in Brno, Czech Republic brought together contributors, operators, and developers from across the free and open source software community. The conference featured a broad range of topics, including cloud infrastructure and AI to security and open source governance.

For us, however, the most memorable moments of the conference happened away from the main stage. While the formal sessions were a mixed bag, some substantive, others heavy on live demonstration and light on discussion. What made the trip worthwhile were the conversations in between sessions.

We spent time with two community groups that left a lasting impression. The first was focused on reverse-engineering modern AR/VR hardware to run a fully open-source operating system and userland. Their work is methodical, hands-on, and making real progress.  The second group operates across hardware, software, and automotive systems, working on whatever captures their interest.

These conversations were a good reminder that the open source ecosystem is sustained not only by institutions, but by individuals driven by curiosity and a genuine commitment to openness. Informal exchanges at events like DevConf.CZ are where real ideas surface and where contributors connect in ways that rarely happen through a conference schedule alone. That community spirit is precisely what the OpenSSL Foundation exists to support.

We look forward to continuing to engage with the broader open source community in the months ahead.
